There has been a lot of publicity about artificial sweetener in the media. There are claims that these sweeteners cause cancer and a variety of their medical illness. Based on reports from the National Cancer Institute, there is no credible scientific evidence that any of the above artificial sweeteners used in the US can cause cancer or any other health problem. Moreover these substances have been rigidly tested in laboratories and so far there Is no proof that these substances are harmful at the recommended doses.
The only sweetener that has a cautionary note is aspartame. This sweetener is not safe for use in people who have the very rare medical disorder known as phenylketonuria (PKU). All products that contain aspartame do have a PKU label.
Just not adding sugar to your coffee is not the answer to the weight gain problem. If one eats too many desserts and chocolates, then the results will be obvious soon. Artificial sweeteners are the panacea for weight loss or diabetes control. If you really want to lose, weight, start eating right and walk regularly.
